La Bufadora Kayak Tour Adventure In Ensenada

After doing a city tour in Cabo and Puerto Vallarta and having them be more centered around shopping we wanted to try something different in Ensenada. We like getting to explore new places but don’t want to spend more time shopping then learning about where we are. So rather then do a city tour we chose the La Bufadora kayaking adventure.

The La Bufadora is a marine geyser is found at Punta Banda Peninsula in Baja California in Mexico about an hour away from Ensenada. We really liked the idea of getting to see the La Bufadora up close and getting to see some of the coastline along the way.

Before we went I goggled and tried to find out more about this adventure. I didn’t really find anything beyond the information that was given by the cruise lines that offer this adventure. Despite that we decided to go for it and see how things went.

We boarded the bus to head out and we started on the adventure or so we thought, we drove for a minute and stopped leaving us a little confused about what was happening. Everyone one the bus was looking around trying to figure out what was happening, finally someone came on and said we were picking up people from the other cruise ship what was also a port that day. About 10 minutes later we were off .

The ride out was fun, the guide was super enthusiastic and was telling us all kinds of information about where we were, then she went into talk about how we might be able to go and get tacos at this place where she recommends at the end of the kayaking if we wanted. We were torn on this since it was never mentioned in anything. I guess if it fits into the four hours they quoted for the adventure then why not.

After about an hour we made it to the La Bufadora. There was trailer with life vests and tubs to put things in that would be locked in the trailer while were kayaking. After everyone put on a life vest and one of the employees checked it we were all asked to sit down for a quick safety and information briefing we were off to the beach to be given a kayak and head out.

It was a five minute walk in the dusty uneven tuff of the dessert to get to the steep stairs that lead down to the beach. Once we were on the beach they started assigning everyone their kayaks and paddles. Then one by one we were taken to the water and helped into the kayaks. It was a bit windy that day so the water was a little choppy but once we were out a bit it wasn’t too bad. They did have to change the route a bit due to the weather which was fine because trying paddle in sync with a 10 year old took some doing.

After a bit of time out we were lead the La Bufadora and were taken in groups of five boats for an up close look. After that we headed back to the beach and were directed one by one to come to shore.

Once were we back on the bus we were an hour behind what was quoted for the adventure, but we had fun kayaking so that part of it was fine. We were ready to head back to ship for showers and lunch.

As we got closer to the port we passed the turn so that some of the group could go get tacos, this would have been fine it we weren’t so late getting back to the ship and had other things we wanted to do that day. Once the detour was done we finally made it back a little bit crankier then was expected because we were not expecting the extra stop that was not a part of the adventure. Other then that it was a fine one time experience.
