We recently did an adult-only cruise and left the little one with the grandparents for a week – so we decided to schedule a few adult only offerings. We tend to sail on the Wonder (which has no Remy), but this trip was on Disney Dream – so we could try one of the offerings at Remy (and, who doesn’t love dessert?).
The normal dessert consist of six dishes, two are already gluten-free but the other four were not. Out of the four that had gluten in them they were able to figure out how to make (or modify) two of them to exclude any gluten.
The first course was a ‘Macaron Framboise’ it was a raspberry macaron with fresh raspberries and a raspberry sauce. (This course was already gluten-free so I had what everyone else was having.)
I was given a gold pate for the next two courses, showing not to serve me because of my food allergies.
The next course was ‘Religieuse Caramel’, this course was not gluten-free so I had to sit this one out. This was made with a Pate a Choux dough and was filled with a caramel mouse and topped with caramel. It looked delicious and my husband enjoyed it.
The third course was again not something that I could have. It was a ‘Mille-feuille Vanille’, it was layered phyllo dough with vanilla cream and a praline sauce topped with more phyllo dough and topped vanilla ganache and milk chocolate.
The fourth course was the ‘Tarte-Tatin’. For the gluten-free version they just left off the dough shell (and the wheat-based nuts). It was really good (very similar to an apple pie).
The fifth course was ‘Citron’, it was made to look like a lemon. The outside was white chocolate shell filled with a lemon mouse and lemon lime jelly. This was my favorite dish out of all of them. Everything was edible (except the stem and leaf, which were as nature made them).
The final course was a ‘Chocolat Chateau de la Muire’, this was chocolate mouse topped with a thin chocolate thin crepe like crisp. This one they had to alter a bit to make it so that I could eat it.
At the end of the meal we were given these cute little bags with some macarons to take with us.
They also offer a wine paring that goes with the desserts, there are three wines in the tasting. (As of summer of 2019; the wine offering is $28 for three glasses per person; still or sparkling bottled waters are available for a fee, and ‘regular’ water is available at no charge.)
There were a few hiccups before the day came for the dessert experience, but they were all fixed before we’d arrived. I was glad they were able to go from being able to two dishes to four (one of the aforementioned hiccups).
They were all really good and it was a super enjoyable time. The menu does change every year so I was told to check back next time I was on the Dream and see what they had for the dessert experience as they maybe better able to accommodate me next time.
So did you pay for 6 courses, but only had 4?
Short answer is yes, though it’s relative – Remy is a flat-rate, per-person charge. That said, they were VERY accommodating of the gluten intolerance, and the chef balanced out the difference with other offerings not on the menu card.
